Waiting for the Rainy Season
As Khao Lak's high season comes to an end the local weather and climate remains very reminiscent of the high season. The latter half of May and early June are usually unpredictable times as the monsoon winds change direction, bringing with it heavy rain often with thunder storms. As Khao Lak becomes quieter and quieter we are still enjoying plenty of days of sunshine, blue skies and a scattering of high, white fluffy clouds. It has also been incredibly hot. With the rainy season holding off, Thailand's hot season continues in Khao Lak.
Only a few Rain Showers in Late July
The second half of July saw some glorious weather in Khao Lak. There were of course a few scattered showers and one or two rainy days but all in all nowhere near the predicted rainfall for the month. As we headed into the second half of July there was a flurry of activity on various social media sites warning of a huge storm that would hit most of southern Thailand. We were warned to batten down the hatches and prepare for the worst in Khao Lak. Apart from a few scattered rain showers in the mornings the weather remained dry with plenty of sunny spells in the afternoons, the big storm deciding to stay clear of Phang Nga Province.
Sunny Spells in Early July
The sunny weather that marked the end of June continued well into the first week of July. Rain and storms had been forecast, but instead Khao Lak saw plenty of blue skies, white fluffy clouds and warm temperatures. Towards the middle of July Khao Lak's weather returned to it's predicable low season weather patterns. Scattered showers throughout the day and high humidity. There were plenty of dry spells too allowing people to get out and about.
A Taste of High Season Weather
2nd half of June saw some unpredictable weather along with a noticeable rise in humidity. June ended with a reminder of high season weather patterns.
First Big Storm of the Low Season
The start of June saw Khao Lak's weather follow its now fairly predicable climate pattern, bright cool mornings and humid afternoons with rain showers. Towards the middle of June a strong south west prevailing monsoon wind blowing over the Andaman Sea brought with it adverse conditions to Khao Lak and much of southern and central Thailand.
Partly Cloudy Mornings and Rainy Afternoons
The weather in Khao Lak has settled into a predicable daily pattern. After a stormy start to the month, the weather from 21st May to 28th May has been partly cloudy in the mornings with rain storms and sometimes thunder storms in the late afternoon or evenings.
