Mountain biking is an ideal way to see more of the local Khao Lak area. Rather than driving around in a minibus to various sights of interest, why not travel at your own pace and take in all the sights and sounds along the way. Mountain biking is gaining in popularity in Thailand and is a healthy, eco friendly way to discover more of the local Khao Lak area.

Cultural highlights on the mountain bike tour

Thai Muang is a small town roughly half way between Phuket Island and Khao Lak and features as the main destination on the Thai Muang Turtles and Waterfalls mountain biking tour.

Mountain Biking Tour

The tour starts at the northern point of Phuket Island. First point of interest is cycling over the Sarasin Bridge which connects Phuket to mainland Thailand. After this, the tour continues for a couple of kilometres before making a turn onto small country roads. These roads have only light traffic and are perfect for biking. The ride is approximately 30 kilometres to Thai Muang before stopping for lunch at a beachside Thai restaurant.

After lunch there is a chance to visit the Thai Muang Turtle Sanctuary run by the Phang Nga Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Centre.

The tour continues in the afternoon along a 15 kilometre stretch to a waterfall. There are a few hills on this section of the tour but nothing too strenuous and remember, there are the nice cooling waters to look forward too at the Ton Prai Waterfall.

Sparrow Bar Live Music Bar in Khao Lak
Sparrow Bar

The Sparrow Bar in Bang Niang is one of Khao Lak's most up and coming live music venues. A great place to enjoy a cold beer or exotic cocktail whilst getting down to a heady mix of classic rock, dance anthems, Thai rock and of course some tropical reggae. All to this to a backdrop of pirates, shipwrecks, pirates, revelry and superb Thai hospitality.

Weather at Ban Nam Kem, Thailand
Sunny Spells in Early July

The sunny weather that marked the end of June continued well into the first week of July. Rain and storms had been forecast, but instead Khao Lak saw plenty of blue skies, white fluffy clouds and warm temperatures.

Towards the middle of July Khao Lak's weather returned to it's predicable low season weather patterns. Scattered showers throughout the day and high humidity. There were plenty of dry spells too allowing people to get out and about.

First Big Storm of the Low Season

The start of June saw Khao Lak's weather follow its now fairly predicable climate pattern, bright cool mornings and humid afternoons with rain showers. Towards the middle of June a strong south west prevailing monsoon wind blowing over the Andaman Sea brought with it adverse conditions to Khao Lak and much of southern and central Thailand.
